Here’s wishing the happiest of VizEds birthdays to Joy Mayer of the University of Missouri.

Joy has been at Mizzou six years, teaching news design and serving as design editor for the Missourian and for Missourian Online. A 1996 graduate of the University of Oklahoma, Joy started her career as a designer for the Wichita (Kan.) Eagle. She spent five years as a designer for the Herald-Tribune of Sarasota, Fla., before moving to Columbia in 2003.

Joy shares a birthday with actors Tom Hanks, Jimmy Smits, Kelly McGillis, Fred Savage and Linda Park; musicians John Tesh and Courtney Love; writer Dean Koontz; politician Donald Rumsfeld, inventor Nicola Tesla and former sports great O.J. Simpson.

Plus, today is National Sugar Cookie Day. Seriously.
