Jennifer Jiggetts is a reporter for the Carroll County Times in Westminster, Md. A 2007 graduate of Norfolk State University, Jennifer served an internship and then worked part-time for the Virginian-Pilot before moving to Maryland last summer.
Travis Ricks is a graphic designer for Miles Media in Sarasota, Fla., a marketing publisher of print and web products to promote tourism. Travis graduated from Michigan State University in 2007 after being named SND Student Designer of the Year. He served an extended internship at the South Florida Sun-Sentinel until the Sarasota Herald-Tribune hired him in April. The Herald-Tribune then laid him off, four months to the day he started there. He began work for Miles in September of last year. Travis turns 27 today.
Travis and Jennifer share a birthday with playwright Neil Simon, actor Gina Lollobrigida, writer Nathaniel Hawthorne, former president Calvin Coolidge, New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner, presidential daughter Malia Obama, cartoonist Rube Goldberg, quasi-journalist Geraldo Rivera and identical twin newspaper columnists Pauline “Popo” Esther Friedman (Dear Abby) and Esther “Eppie” Pauline Friedman (Ann Landers).
In addition to being Independence Day in the U.S., today is also National Country Music Day and Tom Sawyer Fence-Painting Day. Seriously.
