Nevada’s Michael Higdon now working as an ad designer
Finding a job in this economy proved no problem at all for Michael Higdon. Just a few weeks after graduating from the University of Nevada, Michael started work for a company that publishes a number of papers in Nevada.
Michael writes:
I’ll be working for Swift Communications’ new centralized advertising department as a graphic designer.
I’ll be producing mostly print ads for niche products and special sections, as well as the northern Nevada newspapers. The department works in a series of teams. My hope is to work my way up the team structure to a leadership position some day.
In getting the job, I’ve moved to Carson City, the corporate headquarters of Swift. I now live in my first townhome alone (Hooray!).
He began work on June 8.
Michael caught our eye with his work with the Nevada Sagebrush, the university’s student daily, where he designed and advocated public journalism. He interned last summer as a Pulliam Fellow at the Indianapolis Star and spoke at SND/Las Vegas last fall. Michael did some contract work for NASA this year and served a Poynter Fellowship before heading off for Carson City.
