Saturday SND meetup in San Francisco to be webcast live
Pai, graphics director of the San Jose Mercury News, tells us arrangements have been made to webcast Saturday’s free SND meetup in at Adobe’s Customer Briefing Center in San Francisco.
The meeting — and webcast — will begin at noon Pacific Daylight Time and last five hours. The schedule, for those of you not accustomed to counting backwards:
EDT: 3 p.m. - 8 p.m.
CDT: 2 p.m. - 7 p.m.
MDT: 1 p.m. - 6 p.m.
PDT: noon - 5 p.m.
Looks like a pretty decent program, too, with a heavy emphasis on multimedia:
HOUR ONE: News Flash from the Future

Grishaver specializes in systemic design and interactive media, and has led IDEO projects for HBO, Tokyo Metro and numerous other media and technology businesses.
—
HOUR TWO: Experiments in Innovation
Strategy and social media consultant Susan Mernit and Mercury News technology columnist Chris O’Brien discuss the challenges of social media, distribution of news and news presentation. The panel will be moderated by Northwestern University’s Matt Mansfield.
—
HOUR THREE: Visualizing Data
Tyson Evans of the New York Times talks about the processes the NYT uses to visualize and present database material in multimedia form.
—
HOUR FOUR: Making the leap into Multimedia
Geri Migielicz — who directed a project that won a Pulitzer and a produced a documentary that won an Emmy, both for the Mercury News — gives advice on the transition into new media. She now runs Story4, a multimedia production company.
—
HOUR FIVE: Funny Stuff with Don Asmussen
Asmussen, the San Francisco Chronicle’s “Bad Reporter” fake clipping cartoonist, presents his unique take on the world.
The webcast is free. Find more information and the link to the webcast on the SND/Update site.
If you’re within driving distance of San Francisco, the meeting itself is free, too. They’ll be at Adobe Systems on 601 Townsend Street. Free validated parking is available, as is easy access to trains. Again, find more info at SND/Update.
