Bridget O’Donnell moving to China for a year
Bridget O’Donnell, who graduated from the University of Michigan earlier this year with a degree in political science and communication studies, will spend nearly a year teaching English in China.
She writes in her blog:
I will be placed at a middle or high school in Shenzhen under the guidance of the Center for Learning and Teaching Chinese. In addition to teaching, I will receive Mandarin lessons.
…I’ve always wanted to live abroad, and now is really the perfect time to do it. I’ve also got two years of Mandarin classes from the University of Michigan under my belt, and I’m crossing my fingers that it will help me get by for those 10 months.
She’s not done with journalism yet, she says:
So, does this mean I’m leaving journalism/design? Nope. I plan to look for those jobs when I return.
I will try as much as I can to blog the experience, but I won’t know how often I’ll be able to access various websites, including this one.
Bridget interned at AutoWeek (2007) and in the features design department of the New York Times (2008). This year, she served a Poynter Summer Fellowship before interning with Creative Circle Consulting in Providence, R.I.
