Here’s wishing the happiest of VizEds birthdays to two wonderful visual journalists…
Chris Mihal is deputy design director for features and business at the Sun-Sentinel of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. A 2004 graduate of Ball State University, Chris interned at the Virginian-Pilot before joining the Arizona Republic as 1A and projects designer. He moved to the Sun-Sentinel in 2005. Chris turns 28 today.
Bill Mitchell is a member of the faculty of the Poynter Institute in St. Petersburg, Fla. A 1971 graduate of Notre Dame — he majored in theology — Bill worked as a reporter and editor for the Detroit Free Press, the San Jose Mercury News and Time magazine before becoming the Merc’s director of electronic publishing in 1992. He became director of editorial developement for Andrews McMeel Universal in 1995 and then director of Poynter Online in 1999. He’s currently listed as Poynter’s leader of the news transformation initiative and international programs. Bill turns 61 today.
Bill and Chris share a birthday with actors Harry Hamlin and Henry Winkler; musicians Grace Slick and Gavin Rossdale of Bush; bodybuilder Charles Atlas; poet Ezra Pound; writer Fyodor Dostoevsky; U.S. president John Adams; soccer great Diego Armando Maradona and TV new producer Fred Friendly.
Plus, today is National Candy Corn Day. Seriously.
