Birthday for Thursday, Nov. 19
Here’s wishing the happiest of VizEds birthdays to flash animator/cartoonist/graphic artist Grey Blackwell of Raleigh, N.C. Grey turns the big four-oh today.
A 1992 graduate of North Carolina State University in Raleigh, Grey spent several years as an artist for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution before moving home to Raleigh and the News & Observer. He was named graphics editor of the N&O in the late 1990s and served in that position for about ten years. He also free-lanced illustrations to Entertainment Weekly, Sports Illustrated and other magazines and also did some work for Mad magazine.
He eventually gravitated into flash animation. We published a nice Q&A with him here and then wrote about him again here.
He left the N&O a little more than a year ago. Find Grey’s web site here. Find his YouTube channel here.
Grey shares a birthday with actors Jodie Foster, Meg Ryan and Allison Janney, TV talk show hosts Larry King and Dick Cavett, gymnast Kerri Strug, fashion designer Calvin Klein, former Indian prime minister Indira Gandhi, media magnate Ted Turner and the famous McCaughey septuplets, who each turn 12 today.
Plus, today is Have a Bad Day Day. Seriously.
Have a very, very happy birthday, Grey, my friend. Best wishes!
