A 1994 graduate of Syracuse University, Steve spent a year as photo, graphics and design editor of the York (Pa.) Daily Record before becoming presentation director of the Lexington (Ky.) Herald-Leader in 1995. He moved to Detroit in 1999. He’s lectured at Syracuse and at the Poynter Institute and spent three years as publications director for the Society for News Design. He’s currently in China, traveling on SND business. He’ll be vice-president of the society next year.

Steve shares a birthday with evangelist Billy Graham; communist revolutionary Leon Trotsky; scientist Marie Curie; writer Albert Camus and musicians Joni Mitchell, Al Hirt and Joan Sutherland.

Plus, today is National Bittersweet Chocolate with Almonds Day. Seriously.

Best wishes, Steve, for a very happy birthday! And here’s hoping for safe journey home from China!
