Beto Alvarez is a graphic artist for the Philadelphia Inquirer. A 1998 graduate of Tarrant County College, Beto spent six years as a graphic artist and illustrator for the Dallas Morning News before moving to Philly in 2002. Beto turns 32 today.

Alan Formby-Jackson is multimedia desk editor for the Gazette Media Company in Cleveland, U.K. A 1994 graduate of Newcastle College, AlanĀ  spent four years with NCJ Media. He became a designer and sub editor for Gazette Media in 2003 and earned a master’s degree in design from the University of Teesside in 2005. The director of Region 15 of the Society for News Design, Alan moved to the multimedia side last January. He turns 36 today.

Holly Robertson is a paralegal student at Atlanta’s Emory University and an intern in the Office of the Georgia Capital Defender. A 1993 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, Holly spent three years as chief of the Virginian-Pilot’s Chesapeake bureau before moving to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution in 2007.

Holly, Alan and Beto share a birthday with jazz musician Charles “Chuck” Mangione; baseball announcer Vincent “Vin” Scully; comedians Garry Shandling and Howard “Howie” Mandel and authors C.S. Lewis, Louisa May Alcott and Madeline L’Engle.

Plus, today is Square Dance Day. Seriously.
