Graham Kimbrough is a marketing and management consultant based in the Atlanta, Ga., area. A 1983 graduate of Ole Miss University, Graham worked on the marketing and circulation team that launched USA Today in western Tennessee before joining the late, great Gwinnett Daily News in 1989. He spent eleven years as director of circulation, marketing manager and operations director at a variety of papers — the Forsyth (Ga.) County News, the Gadsen (Ala.) Times, the Birmingham News and the Clayton (Ga.) News Daily. He became assistant director of the Southern Newspaper Publishers Association in 2000 and spent nine years working with folks all over the Southeast — especially with training issues.
Tom Mangan is an assistant editor at Trailspace.com, a web site that caters to hiking and backpacking enthusiasts. A 1987 graduate of Southern Illinois University, Tom worked as a copy editor and page designer for the Tampa Tribune and the Peoria Journal Star before joining the San Jose Mercury News in 1999. He stayed there ten years, also writing a hiking column and relentlessly blogging on a variety of web sites. He moved to Winston-Salem, N.C. in August and joined Trailspace last month. Tom turns 48 today.
Graham and Tom share a birthday with actors Tara Reid, Parker Posey and Esther Rolle; TV personalities Mary Hart and Jack Osborne;Â musicians Leif Garrett, Bonnie Raitt and Patti Page; football coach Bobby Bowden; animator Masashi Kishimoto (the creator of Naruto); Margaret Mitchell, author of the epic novel Gone With the Wind; journalist Morley Safer and South African Dr. Christiaan Barnard, who performed the world’s first successful heart transplant in 1967 right here in Cape Town.
