Birthdays for Thursday, Nov. 5
Here’s wishing the happiest of VizEds birthdays to two wonderful visual journalists…
Vernon Carne is retired from the graphics department of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. A 1970 graduate of the Professional Academy of Art, Vernon began work at the AJC in March 1972 and worked there for more than 33 years. A gifted jazz musician, you buy one of the four albums he’s produced and download a free song at his web site. Vernon turns 65 today.
Denita Nash is a copy editor at the Virginian-Pilot in Norfolk. A 1995 graduate of Louisiana Tech University, Denita earned a masters degree in journalism from the University of Louisiana at Monroe in 1999. She edited copy for the Press Enterprise of Bloomsburg, Pa., before moving to Norfolk in 2006.
Denita and Vernon share a birthday with actors Judy Reyes (of Scrubs), Tatum O’Neal, Elke Summer, Sam Shepard and Vivian Leigh; musicians Bryan Adams, Peter Noone, Art Garfunkel, Ike Turner and Kevin Jonas; sports greats Bill Walton (hoops) and Javy Lopez (baseball); labor organizer Eugene Debs and historian Will Durant.
Plus, today is Gunpowder Day. Seriously.
Best wishes, Vernon, Denita, for a terrific birthday!
