Here’s wishing the happiest of VizEds birthdays today to five wonderful visual journalists…

Dan Garrow is graphics director for the Wilmington, Del., News Journal. He turns 51 today.

Leo Kim is a multimedia visual journalist for the Virginian-Pilot in Norfolk. A 1996 graduate of Ball State University, Leo obtained a master’s degree in photojournalism from Ohio University in 2003 and joined the Pilot that year.

Nick Masuda is a senior designer for the Orlando Sentinel. A 2001 graduate of the University of California at Santa Barbara, Nick spent three years as a designer for the Asbury Park Press and another year as deputy sports editor for the Santa-Barbara News-Press before becoming managing editor for visuals and sports at the Sun Journal of Lewiston, Maine, in 2006. He moved to Orlando in 2007. Nick turns 30 today.

Noah Musser is an artist for the Kansas City Star. A 1997 graduate of the University of Kansas, Noah worked as an artist for the St. Paul (Minn.) Pioneer Press and the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. He moved to Universal Press Syndicate in 2001 and taught a few semesters at his alma mater. He joined the Star in 2002. Find his portfolio here. Jason Tyler is a features designer for the Columbia (Mo.) Daily Tribune and a grad student at the University of Missouri. A 2005 graduate of that same institution — he majored in history; minored in political science — Jason spent two-and-a-half years as page-one designer for the San Antonio Express-News. He returned to Columbia in 2008. Jason turns 31 today.

Leo, Noah, Jason, Nick and Dan share a birthday with actors Leonardo DiCaprio, Peta Wilson, Calista Flockhart, Demi Moore and Pat O’Brien; comedian Jonathan Winters; TV host Marc Summers; politicians William Proxmire and Alger Hiss; World War II general George S. Patton and writer Kurt Vonnegut.

Plus, today is Air Day. Seriously.
