Birthdays for Wednesday, Nov. 25
Here’s wishing the happiest of VizEds birthdays today to two wonderful journalists, both of whom have been a huge, huge influence in my career…
Terry Plumb, who retired two-and-a-half years ago after a 20 years as editor of The Herald of Rock Hill, S.C. A 1966 graduate of Notre Dame, Terry spent time working with Army Intelligence [insert your own oxymoron joke here]. He spent several years as editor of the Hilton Head Island Packet before moving to Rock Hill in 1987. Terry turns 65 today.
Warren Watson is executive director of the Society of American Business Editors and Writers in Phoenix, Ariz. A 1973 graduate of the University of New Hampshire, Warren spent seven years as managing editor of the Portland (Maine) Press Herald and six months as a vice president at the American Press Institute in Reston, Va. He served as president of the Society for News Design in 2003 and then was Director of J-Ideas for Ball State University’s First Amendment Institute. He earned a master’s degree from Ball State in 2008 and assumed his new position in Arizona in September. Warren turns 59 today.
Warren and Terry share a birthday with sports greats Donovan McNabb (NFL) and Joe DiMaggio (baseball); singer Amy Grant; comedian, talk show host and occasional actor Ben Stein; actors Christina Applegate, Jill Hennessy, John Larroquette and Ricardo Montalban; temperance activist Carry Nation and presidential children John F. Kennedy Jr. and Barbara and Jenna Bush.
Plus, today is National Parfait Day. Seriously.
Have fun today, gentlemen! Happy birthday!
