USA Today joins forces with… Fark?

This is either a sign of the apocalypse. Or it’s sheer genius. I don’t know which.

Or maybe they’re all just nuts.

A press release states:

Starting today, USAToday.com’s Tech section, the one-stop guide for all things technology, will become the exclusive host and sponsor of the Geek page on Fark.com. The page is available at fark.usatoday.com.

The partnership will offer signature features from USAToday.com on the Geek page, including: USA Today Tech section header with USAToday.com navigation; Top News, offering the latest in technology news; and Talking Tech, regular videos from USA Today Tech Reporters Ed Baig and Jefferson Graham. As part of the arrangement USA Today will manage advertising placements on the Geek page, extending USA Today’s online impressions to marketers and advertising clients.

The best thing about the release is this quote:

Ever since I first saw the words ‘Tomorrow the World’ scrawled by hand on the side of a USA Today newspaper box I knew I wanted to work with these guys,” said Drew Curtis, founder and CEO of Fark.com.

UPDATE:

Robert Quigley of Mediaite writes tonight:

The most intriguing thing that [Fark's Drew] Curtis said, though, was that Fark currently has plans in the works to partner up with other media outlets. “I can’t go into any great detail because if it turns out some of these ideas suck as much or worse than a travel tab we’ll shitcan em.”

Fark’s local news aggregation is still its best feature; as the blogosphere matures and thickens, it’s refreshing to read stories that don’t just come from other blogs, even if the point is that they shouldn’t have been news in the first place.

Find the story here.

And, as if that wasn’t cool enough, we found ourselves incredibly flattered by this tweet by USA Today marketing manager Brian Dresher:

Loving this very clever Fark - USA Today graphic by @charlesapple, http://bit.ly/66KZZT

Thanks for noticing, Brian. Please write for a resumé.

  1. John Telford Says:

I wonder if they’ll be censoring content. I can’t see USA Today wanting Fark’s “Boobies” or “Weiners” URLs.
