Birthday for Thursday, Dec. 10

Here’s wishing the happiest of VizEds birthdays to Matt Erickson, director of presentation and visuals of The Times of Northwest Indiana. Matt turns 34 today.

Matt has been with the Times since his graduation from Eastern Illinois University in 1997. He’s the director of region 4 for the Society for News Design and he coordinated the SND annual contest in 2005. He also consults and redesigns via his M7 Agency and he blogs about mixed martial arts. Find that blog here.

Matt shares a birthday with actors Kenneth Branagh, Dan Blocker, Susan Dey and Raven-Symoné Christina Pearman; TV chef Bobby Flay; writer Emily Dickenson and news anchor Chet Huntley.

Plus, today is the Festival for the Souls of Dead Whales. Seriously.

    Are you familiar with the made-up history of the Festival for the Souls of Dead Whales? It’s pretty entertaining…I linked to an article about it in my blog. Happy dead whale day, anyway…
