Birthdays for Monday, Dec. 21
Here’s wishing the happiest of VizEds birthdays to a pair of fine visual journalists…
Eric Palm is a 15-year veteran newspaper designer and editor. Eric worked for the St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times, the News & Observer of Raleigh, N.C., the Ocala (Fla.) Star Banner, the Sarasota, Fla. Herald Tribune, and the The New York Times before joining the Orlando Sentinel in 2006. Eric’s now on the job market after Orlando laid him off earlier this year. Find his portfolio site here. Eric turns 36 today.
Don Tate III is a writer and illustrator of children’s books. He’s also a news artist for the American-Statesman of Austin, Texas. A 1984 graduate of Des Moines (Iowa) Area Community College in 1984, Don had worked at The Des Moines Register nearly two years when I became graphics editor there in April 1999. Shortly before the end of that year, he left for Austin. Find Don’s personal web site here. Don turns 46 today.
Don and Eric share a birthday with actors Kiefer Sutherland, Samuel L. Jackson, Andy Dick, Ray Romano, Jane Kaczmarek and Jane Fonda; musicians Frank Zappa and Carl Wilson (of the Beach Boys); TV host Phil Donahue; sports stars Florence Griffith Joyner (track and field), Chris Evert (tennis), Joe Paterno (college football coach) and Joaquin Andujar (baseball); Chinese president Hu Jintao and former Soviet leader Joseph Stalin.
Plus, today is (deep breath) Look at the Bright Side Day, National Flashlight Day, National French-Fried Shrimp Day and Hamburger Day. Seriously.
Best wishes, Don; Eric. Have a wonderful birthday!
