A shocking development today: Editor & Publisher will close shop by the end of the year.

The magazine has long been the first place to go to for industry news. I even subscribed at home for several years, back in the 1980s, when I was still pursuing a career as an editorial cartoonist. The web site has been a must-read since it was first cranked up.

E&P’s Shawn Moynihan reports:

As news spread of E&P’s fate, the staffers have been inundated with calls from members of the industry it covers, and many others, expressing shock and hopes for a revival. Staff members will stay on for the remainder of 2009.
