SND begins revamp of its web operations

We’re still awfully fuzzy on what’s going on with the Society for News Design these days. Not much is coming out of SND central. And God forbid either of SND’s primary web sites — SND.org or SND Update get updated in a timely fashion.

But all that’s apparently going to change soon. Finally.

Lee Steele design director of the Connecticut Post and director of the newly redrawn Eastern U.S. region cranked up a new blog last week and broke a little news at the same time.

The new Eastern regional blog and Twitter page, he says, will…

…correspond with big changes at SND, among them a newly crafted SND web site that will be redesigned to accommodate more, and more immediate, news from each region.

Kris Viesselman, who takes over as president of the society on Friday, tells us:

We will have a main site redesign launch soon. We will give you a heads-up.

No word yet on a time table for all this.

Meanwhile, here’s what U.S.-based SND members need to know:

1. The old U.S. Regions 1 (New England) and 2 (Eastern metro) have been combined into a single region. Lee Steele is director. Find his blog here and his Twitter feed here.

2. Texas and Oklahoma are now part of Region 3 (Southeast), where Melissa Angle of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution is director. Find her Twitter feed here and a Facebook page here. A somewhat disused blog is here.

3. Regions 5, 6, 7 and 8 have been combined into one region — other than Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas and Oklahoma, it’s everything west of the Mississippi. We’re unclear as to who is now the director of this region. The only blog SND cites for that area is inoperative.

Read all about the regional redistricting here, by the way.

We’ll let you know about changes to SND’s web site and/or Update blog as soon as someone there lets us know.

One Response to “SND begins revamp of its web operations”

  1. Kris Viesselman Says:

Thanks for the drum roll Charles :) We’re crossing our fingers that phase one of the snd.org redesign will launch next week! We’re very grateful to a team of folks who–in addition to their day jobs and the holidays–have volunteered their time to make this happen. We’ll be relying on a great network of members to populate the site with lively, fresh and inspiring content.
