Another news design contest you can enter

And the best thing about this one: There’s no entry fee.

Newspaper Designing, the networking site aimed at designers in India — but open to everyone — is celebrating its first year of existence by holding a news design competition.

The rules are simple:

  1. The contest is open to everyone, in any country.
  2. There is no limit to the number of entries you may submit.
  3. Entries must have been published in 2009.
  4. Entries must be submitted in PDF format.
  5. Entries must be received by Jan. 15 (which is one week from today).
  6. Categories are: Best front page, best features page, best infographics, best sports page and best center spread.

The contest — and the site itself, of course — are run by Iam Sajeevkumar T.K., visual editor of Kaumudi, a 150,000-circulation Malayalam-language daily in Kerala, India.

He says to call him TKSajeev for short.

And again, while the Newspaper Designing site is aimed at Indian newspapers, the contest is open to all. This is TKSajeev’s way at getting his colleagues more involved in the worldwide news design community. And vice-versa.

So please take a moment, if you will, and submit a few of your better pages.

Find the official rules here. Submit your entries directly to TKSajeev at: tksajeev [at] gmail.com

Full disclosure: I’ve agreed to be “head of jury” of judges for this contest. Which apparently means I’m in charge of recruiting. Heh.

By the way, entries for this year’s Society for News Design competition must be received by Jan. 13, which is next Wednesday. Meaning you should have probably mailed them by now.

The deadline for the annual SportsDesigner contest is Feb. 28.
