Jim Hopkins returns with his Gannett Blog
In case you haven’t noticed, former USA Today reporter Jim Hopkins quietly returned to his Gannett Blog last month.
A 1989 graduate of Brown University, Jim spent more than 20 years as a reporter and editor at various papers around the country, ending up at USA Today. His Gannett Blog received more than 100,000 page views and 10,000 unique visitors a month until he shut it down last summer to concentrate on other work.
On Dec. 6, however, Jim resumed blogging insider information about Gannett…
…and he kicked off two new blogs: One about the New York Times company and one about Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp.
So far, Jim’s not blogging about McClatchy. Which is a shame: the McClatchy Watch blogger quit two days before Christmas, Jim reports.
In case you’re wondering, there isn’t a whole lot of money in newspaper industry blogging. The outgoing McClatchy Watch blogger wrote, in his farewell post:
For the past several months I have averaged 2,000 hits on weekdays, about half that on weekends. Not bad for this little blog but not a solid business model — my monthly income from this blog was never more than about one sixth of my mortgage payment.
I’m a huge fan of the work Jim has done over the past couple of years and I’m delighted to see him return. You’ll find links over to the right, in my blogroll. But, for the record:
Find the New York Times Co. blog here.
Find the News Corp. blog here.
