An obtrusive movie promo on the front of a free Dutch tab
Sp!ts — a free daily commuter tabloid in Amsterdam, the Netherlands — used a “cute” but obtrusive little visual trick Thursday that tied in with a page one ad.
The ad is for a new movie called Gangsterboys. The visual gimmick took the form of graphic bullet holes, appearing to puncture page one in five places, including the paper’s nameplate…
…but, oddly enough, not the movie ad itself. Heh. The advertiser must not have wanted any stinkin’ bullet holes in his nice, clean ad.
Also, note how the small story at bottom left skewed around the holes.
The page was posted Thursday by Piet Bakker in his Newspaper Innovation blog and then picked up by Editor & Publisher’s Mark Fitzgerald.
Careful, though: There are only five holes here. That means the gun may have one bullet remaining.
You’ve been warned.
