Birthdays for Sunday, March 7
Here’s wishing the happiest of VizEds birthdays to three wonderful journalists…
Emily Pepperman is a Philadelphia-based web designer and owner of Professional Web Concepts. Previously, Emily worked in the entertainment department of Busch Gardens in Tampa and then as a web designer for Interstat Inc. In 2000, Emily and a partner bought an existing operation and used it to create Professional Web Concepts, a web hosting, design firm and programming firm. Find her site here.
Melanie Sill is editor and senior vice president of the Sacramento Bee. A 1981 graduate of the University of North Carolina, Melanie joined the News & Observer of Raleigh a year later and worked as a features reporter and then assistant metro editor. She took a year off to attend Harvard as a Nieman Fellow, returning to the N&O in 1994 as Sunday and special projects editor. She was named managing editor in 1998 and executive editor in 2002. She moved to Sacramento in 2007.
Brad Stertz is corporate communications manager for Audi of America, based in Herndon, Va. A 1983 graduate of the University of Kansas, Brad spent five years as a reporter for the Wall Street Journal, two years as the Washington bureau chief for the Detroit News and six years as news editor for the Daily Press of Newport News, Va. He moved into his current position about a year-and-a-half ago. Brad turns the big five-oh today.
Emily, Melanie and Brad share a birthday with actors Rachel Weisz and Daniel J. Travanti; musicians Paul Weisz (of S Club 7) and Maurice Ravel; tennis great Ivan Lendl; evangelist Tammy Faye Bakker, photographer Antony Charles Robert Armstrong-Jones (the first Earle of Snowden who, for 18 years, was married to Princess Margaret) and Willard Scott, TV weatherman and patron saint of birthday obsessed folks everywhere.
Plus, today is National Crown Roast of Pork Day. Seriously.
Best wishes, all, for the best birthday ever today!
