Birthdays for Thursday, March 18
Here’s wishing the happiest of VizEds birthdays to two terrific visual journalists…
Ken Marshall has worked in the graphics department of the Cleveland Plain Dealer for 11 years. Previously, he worked with me (and Kevin Hand and Chris Soprych and Rick Tuma and the rest of the gang) at the Chicago Tribune. A graduate of Ohio State University, Ken has also worked in San Antonio, San Diego and Columbus, Ohio.
Brooke Sample is a copy editor for Woman’s World in Englewood Cliffs, N.J. A 2000 graduate of Penn State, Brooke spent three years at the Somerville, N.J., Courier News and two at the Asbury Park Press before moving to the Virginian-Pilot of Norfolk in 2006. Her husband, Rich Quinn — a reporter for Commercial Mortgage Alert — also worked at the Pilot. Brooke moved to Women’s World in 2008.
Brooke and Ken share a birthday with musicians Wilson Pickett, Charley Pride, Irene Cara, Vanessa Williams, and Adam Levine (of Maroon 5); actors Dana Elaine Owens (better known as Queen Latifah), Brad Dourif and Peter Graves; comedian Dane Cook; Speedskater Bonnie Blair; writers John Updike and George Plimpton and politicians Grover Cleveland, F.W. de Klerk and Neville Chamberlain.
In addition, today is Awkward Moments Day. Seriously.
Best wishes, Ken; Brooke! Have a wonderful birthday today!
