Birthdays for Wednesday, March 17
Here’s wishing the happiest of VizEds birthdays to three terrific visual journalists…
Patty Cox is managing editor for presentation at the St. Petersburg Times. A 1986 graduate of Bowling Green State University, Patty spent two years as a copy editor and designer for the Journal Gazette of Fort Wayne, Ind., before joining the Tampa Tribune in 1988. She moved over to the Times later that year, working as a copy editor, designer, metro news editor and director of art and presentation before leaving in 2001 to become a project manager for Garcia Media. She returned to the Times two years later as assistant managing editor.
William Neff is online graphics editor for the Cleveland Plain Dealer. He spent five years as an artist for the Philadelphia Inquirer before moving to the Plain Dealer in 2003, serving as an artist and a graphics editor. Bill turns 50 today.
Amber Nettles is manager of mobile news and social networking for the Daily Press of Newport News, Va. A 2007 graduate of Christopher Newport University, Amber worked first as a copy editor and then a designer for community news pages. She moved to the online side a year ago.
Amber, Patty and William share a birthday with actors Robert Lowe, Gary Sinise, Kurt Russell, Patrick Duffy and Samuel Horwitz (better known as Shemp Howard of the Three Stooges); musicians John Sebastian, Billy Corgan (of Smashing Pumpkins) and Nathaniel Adams Coles (better known as Nat King Cole); dancer Rudolf Nureyev and sports greats Mia Hamm (women’s soccer) and Robert Tyre “Bobby” Jones Jr. (golf).
In addition, today is Submarine Day. Seriously.
Best wishes, you three! Have the best birthday ever!
