Detroit News design director Cindy Jacobs departs for corporate digital team
Detroit News presentation editor Richard Epps writes us regarding news design director Cindy Jacobs:
Sadly, [Thursday's A1 was] Cindy’s last burst of great design for us, as her last day is today.
She has resigned to take a job at the Detroit Media Partnership (the business agent of The Detroit News and Detroit Free Press.) She will be working with the partnership’s digital marketing team.
Cindy has been an absolute rock star for us during her seven-year tenure with us, including the last two years as News Design Director. Fortunately, Cindy’s immense talents stay inside our Lafayette Boulevard address, as she works to promote The News and Free Press‘ digital products. That provides some consolation to us as we lose an immensely talented designer, and a beloved friend.
A 2001 graduate of Michigan State University, Cindy spent a year at the Aurora (Ill.) Beacon News before joining the Detroit News in 2002. She mostly designed sports before being promoted to her current position. She also one of the keepers of the News‘ environmental news web page, the Green Life. Find that here.
And before you ask: Yes, this is the same Detroit Media Partnership that appointed the Free Press‘ Steve Dorsey to a vice-presidency last month.
As a bonus for those of you persistent enough to read to the end of this story, Rick also tells us:
We are in the midst of a search for Cindy’s replacement, and it’s very possible we will have a full-time opening to offer soon. I am very interested in hearing from candidates, be it soon-to-be graduates or experienced designers, who can step in and take a lead role in our 1A, news, business and sports rotation. If you could make a note of that in your posting, Charles, I would greatly appreciate it.
