Topeka, Kansas, renames itself “Google”
It’s only temporary and it’s only as a stunt to attract Google’s attention in hopes of participating in Google’s “Fiber for Communities” project.
But yes, on Monday, the major of Topeka officially proclaimed his town will now be known as Google, Kansas. At least through the end of March.
The photoillustration CNN used for its version of the story:
The tractor in the background is a nice touch.
CNN points out this isn’t the first time Topeka has pulled this stunt. Twelve years ago, it changed its name to ToPikachu. You know. As in Pokemon.
I’m certain this high-tech naming thing will be a trend that will sweep the nation.
Next: Fark-o, North Dakota.
