Bridget O’Donnell joins China Daily in Beijing
Bridget O’Donnell — a 2009 graduate of the University of Michigan who moved to China last year to teach English — has signed on as a designer at the China Daily in Beijing.
At the China Daily, she’ll be working with Bill Gaspard, who moved to the same paper last winter, and creative director Jonah Kessel. The 200,000-circulation daily redesigned two months ago.
Bridget has been in Beijing nearly three weeks. Among the things she’s tweeted since her arrival:
- “In typical China fashion, my flight was delayed 2 hours. But I’m here in Beijing! My apartment is a huge step up from my dorm in Shenzhen.”
- “So my apartment in the China Daily “compound” has a bedroom, two living rooms and two balconies. I’m just sayin’ (I need visitors).”
- I had to use a taxi today during non-rush hour and it was still more crowded than any normal U.S. freeway during rush hour. Even non-rush hour is rush hour in Beijing.
- I found PopTarts today. That seals it: Beijing is officially 10 million times greater than Shenzhen.
- Sixteen items they only sell at Chinese Walmarts. I have personally seen all of these on sale there except for #16.
Here is Bridget with her new Chinese media credentials:
During her college years, Bridget interned at AutoWeek, with Bill Ostendorf’s Creative Circle Consulting in Providence, R.I., and in the features design department of the New York Times (2008). Her degree is in political science and communication studies.
She moved to Shenzhen, China, last summer and taught under the guidance of the Center for Learning and Teaching Chinese. In addition to teaching English, she also received tutoring in Mandarin. Read about that move here.
