Birthdays for Wednesday, June 16
Here’s wishing the happiest of VizEds birthdays to two superlative visual journalists…
Erin Cubert is a project manager for South Central Media in Nashville, where she deals with creative and technical resources for web development. A 2007 graduate of Ball State University, Erin interned at the Nashville Tennessean and the Lafayette, Ind., Journal and Courier, served a Poynter fellowship and worked as design editor of the Ball State Daily News before starting full-time at the Tennessean as a web designer and, later, a social media coordinator. She moved over to South Central Media in 2009. Find her personal web site here.
Joanne Miller is an independent web and multimedia designer in Golden Valley, Minn. A 1987 graduate of St. Cloud State University in Minnesota, Joanne worked as a graphic artist for the Honolulu Star-Bulletin and the Army Times Publishing Company before joining the Los Angeles Times in 1993 as a senior artist. Later that year, she became art director of the St. Paul Pioneer Press before moving to Charlotte in 1997. After nearly 11 years as the Charlotte Observer’s graphics editor, Joanne left last summer, moved back north and set up her company, JML Graphic Design. Find her site here.
Erin, Joanne and John share a birthday with actors John Cho, Joan Van Ark, Laurie Metcalf and Arthur Stanley Jefferson (better known as Stan Laurel); musicians Tupac Shakur, Keshia Chanté Harper (who normally goes without her last name), American Idol’s Diana Degarmo and William Wayne “Billy Crash” Craddock; sports greats Kerry Wood, Ron LeFlore (baseball) and Phil Mickelson (golf); authors Erich Segal and Joyce Carol Oates and newspaper publisher Katharine Graham.
Plus, today is Fudge Day and Bloomsday. Seriously.
Have the best birthday ever today, you three! Best wishes!
