German paper talking World Cup smack on A1

And it’s a hoot, too.

Spain plays Germany today in the World Cup semifinal. The winner will take on the Netherlands, famous for wearing orange.

Here is the front page of today’s die Welt of Berlin:

The headline on that cryptic lead art reads:

By pressing the finals

How do you say in german foot in the mouth?

  2. Chris Says:

I only took a year of German, but I’m pretty sure that headline reads ‘With pressing in the finals.’ Or something of that sort…word order may be slightly different.

Thanks, Chris! I’m only using Google Translate, which has proved spotty at best. And the only German I’ve taken is by watching reruns of “Hogan’s Heroes”!

  4. MichaeL Says:

Actually the orange on the cover has nothing to do with holland. It’s a Valencia orange grown in Spain, next to a german made juicer - implying Germany will beat Spain and advance.

  5. Charles Apple Says:

    There ya go. Thanks, Michael!
