After six years of volunteer posting in the VisualEditors bulletin boards and blogs, I’m closing down this blog today. (more…)

In the Chicago Tribune again, 11 years later

Saturday, July 10th, 2010

More than 11 years after I departed the graphics department of the Chicago Tribune, I’m there again. Kind of.

I was hired by Mike Kellams — a designer when I worked there, but now he’s assistant managing editor for sports — to add a little graphics-and-brainstorming push to the Sports Smack feature in the Sunday Trib.

Check it out here, if you get a chance.

Just like old times. Sigh

Doing much better this morning

Sharon had yet another rough night — ask me sometime about the projectile vomiting; I think she’s rather proud of her force and distance — but it’s nearly 9 a.m. here in Portsmouth, Va., and she’s feeling pretty decent. As I type this, she’s talking to her mom and dad in Atlanta.

I’m sure hoping they’ll declare this emergency over and let us go home. Where, of course, we can prepare for our next emergency. Whatever that turns out to be.

More as it develops.

UPDATE: 1:15 P.M. EDT

Released from the hospital! Should be home in an hour or so!

UPDATE: 3:03 P.M. EDT

When the nurse took Sharon down to the hospital lobby, I was amused to note the label on the back of the wheelchair:

Sharon, as you might recall, is a special ed teacher. Who specializes in learning disabilities, among other things. Or what they call “LD kids.”

We arrived home shortly after 2 p.m. Sharon’s now resting comfortably in our bed. I’m looking forward to a shower and a nap myself. Preferably not at the same time.

That was a harrowing 54 hours. I wouldn’t want to go though all that again.

After some sleep I have a lot of work to catch up on. And only then can I catch up on my correspondence. Thanks to all who offered support via e-mail, comments and Facebook.

I hope you all have a great fourth. Me; I could use a fifth. If you knows what I means.
