The Hearst Corp. with Mexico’s leading newspaper publisher, Grupo Reforma, launched on June a twice-weekly Spanish-language newspaper in San Antonio, Tx.

The free newspaper is called Cancha (Spanish for soccer field), and the content is about 60% sports coverage, and the rest are news and entertainment from Reforma’s nine newspapers in Mexico, where the group has a daily circulation of more than 1 million.

Grupo Reforma will write, edit and design Cancha. The San Antonio Express-News will sell advertising, print and distribute.

The target is Hispanics with close ties to Mexico, who return every year to visit and send a total of $20 billion in remittances to their home country.
