The NiCools

At the suggestion of Robb “vt_robb” Paulson I introduce a new name for the page of the day awards. Since it was the only suggestion I got, I’m going to run with it for now. We’ll see if it makes it to the end of the post. Without further ado, I present the NiCools.

First, a new take on the old back to school uniforms story from the Herald in Bradenton, Fla. Resisting the temptation to put a color screen behind or thick rule around the centerpiece gave the page some breathing room.

Also the Savannah Morning News comes up with a page similar to what a photo editor and I pitched at the meeting today. Nice work. I like the refer at the top as well as the segmented Middle East fotos, however, I would have varied the column width of the story below the pics as the current configuration makes it feel like there are three fotos with accompaning stories.

Check back tomorrow to see what the Palm Beach Post (and others) ends up doing.
