Anybody looking for a job?
We are interviewing for a few positions and I'm really surprised by the lack of response to my job postings, so here's my spiel.
I was just updating my resume and I had a real hard time organizing the awards section, places of employment, references, etc. I'm serious, now is not the time to be bashful; I’ve been in the newspaper biz for over a decade and worked for large papers like the Seattle Times and the Chicago Tribune. I’ve worked with our industry’s giants, such as Charles Apple, Michael Kellams, Kevin Hand and Robert Dorrell. I’m Chris Soprych, AME for multimedia at the Rockford Register Star. I wanted a staff of my own, so I took a gamble went to a mid-size paper.
Here’s what I’m trying to say: Where’s the love? The Register Star has done some amazing things in the last year: new press, redesign and a huge push to interactive. Just look at this site and click on What we do, to see our best work.

We are looking for one multimedia artist. You might be thinking, “what’s that?” Its what we use to call a graphic artist, or a news artist, or a designer. At the Register Star we don’t work in an art department, we work in a multimedia department. We tell stories in print and online. We use informational graphics, design and photography, but we also use video and Flash animation.
We are looking for a self-starter with design talent, Flash experience and a passion for learning. I know not every applicant can have all these skills, but please contact me if you are interested.
