Having used both:

DTI has a better interface. It tends to crash a lot.

CCI has a better workflow process. It's solid as a rock.

DTI has InDesign, though, and CCI has LayoutChamp, so DTI instantly wins.

Yeah, agreed, Indesign is a major factor for luvin DTI, but anxious about the crashes though... was that on CS2?

And to complicate things I hear the version of CCI that we're interested in also has an Indesign front - something called Newsgate (?) Do you have any expereince of that?

To clarify a little bit:

CCI currently has two products, NewsDesk and the newer NewsGate. Both can be full production systems, including a front end system for content and pagination/production. Both can use LayoutChamp or InDesign.

NewGate is meant to be a holistic content management system -- housing everything -- budgeting, story notes, research, assignments, photos, graphic, multimedia, etc.

But the InDesign implementation is ... less developed into the workflow than LayoutChamp. It gets better in future versions -- when it will pair InCopy as the editing tool to go alongside InDesign.

It appears that NewsGate eventually will be the main offering from CCI. It's silly for CCI to have to products that essentially do the same thing (though NewsGate does more). Trouble is, most CCI sites are on NewsDesk and nobody is in a terrible hurry to spend still more money to move to a "new" system.

But NewsGate is definitely what they are pushing for new installations.

Thx for your insight, of course both vendors would be nothing without the Adobe range of products and having messed about with CS3 and the hooks into Dreamweaver, anticipate that's what CCI will be basing Newsgate on, dynamic web pages

It would make sense to tie further into Adobe's products, but I don't think CCI is near there yet.

They're currently partnering with a company called Escenic for full-blown web site management.

If you want the real skinny on CCI, you should probably wait for Martin Gee to weigh in on this thread. Apparently, he's downright smitten with the program and its idiosyncracies.
