So I really want to go to the Boston workshop but after quick calculations it will cost me $1500 to attend. This includes air fare, hotel and registration.
Anyone have any ideas on how I can make this a cheaper affair? Because I just bought a house and have my high school reunion coming up and two weddings to attend next year. (In Florida and California)
I'm sure I'm not the only one in this conundrum. I know shrinking salaries are the norm around the country.
The year I went to Houston, my trip was funded by the Maine Press Association. They have training grants that you could apply for and they would pay some or all of your way to workshops. I got lucky and was paid my entire way. See if your state press association has anything like that you can apply for.
Find a roommate whose room is already paid for if they don't mind possibly sharing a bed or getting a cot put in the room.
Discount airfares are your friend if you have access to them. Download Southwest Airlines' DING application and you can monitor flights from the closest Southwest airport to Boston. You can sometimes get fares as low as $94 each way, which isn't bad at all.
That's the best advice I have to offer at the moment. :) _________________ "I solemnly swear that I am up to no good." - Mauraders Map from Harry Potter
This isn't a rare occurrence these days as papers just aren't spending on stuff like this -- and many, many other things.
Given the business environment, I've wondered many times (but especially after seeing the recent mailing) whether the costs have priced out many people. _________________ Well, I just got into town about an hour ago...
