The price tag is awfully steep for a gadget that, when you boil it all down from what's promised to what actually works, is nothing more than an iPod built into a cell phone.

Good thing I don't have an iPod OR a phone that handles broadband/multimedia. Something tells me the iPhone might be a solution to my dilemma.

Systems update:

We had a database issue today and had to restore from backup.
Looks like we may be missing some posts that were made yesterday (Saturday July 7)

There was a lot of activity in this thread yesterday. Please repost your pro/anti- iPhone rants.

Actually my first computer was a Mac. I started my computing life on that side of the fence. Over time, I began to wonder what the other side of the fence was like, and I was amazed. When I discovered Ctrl-Alt-Del, I was hooked. No more restarts for one frozen program. With a PC, you could actually make the offender quit -- something that NEVER worked on my Mac. I just like my PC better. I use a Mac Mini at work, and I'm still not all that impressed. I do like it better than other Macs I've used, but I'd still rather have my PC. Wink

OK Mr. Gates, you can come out of your disguise now. Really. Bill. Quit trying to trick us.

This will quickly get out of hand and devolve into a Mac v.s PeeCee scrum, but what the hell ...

Dude, that's a 10-year-old complaint. It's like saying the reason you use Macs is because DOS sucks.
Unprotected memory hasn't been an issue since they switched to Mac OS X.

That's kinda my point -- why did it take Apple 10 versions of software before they put that in??? Speaking of it being a 10-year-old complaint, I think it was about that time I gave up on Macs and went over to the Dark Side.

And yes, DOS sucks Wink

Bottom line: I was once an Apple guy, and they let me down. A guy never gets over that kind of jilting. My old iPod 3G aside, my life is plenty happy without Apple and its gadgets. Call me crazy.

Done.

It really stinks the other posts were eaten. I bet the machine that this site lives in is a Mac. Twisted Evil

Sorry. I couldn't resist one final dig. I'm officially done.

PC server running Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP - VizEds has been open source since day one. Again, I am sorry for the records loss.

Back to the topic.

I am using my iPhone to make presentations.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=9X4uYUYUenc

This is a level of productivity that is just simply unavailable on my old Razr.

I do wish it had a RSS reader, a better 'to do' list (Or rather that iCal had a better to do list . . .) , simple GPS functions and a flight tracker app - but I am getting more out of it than I expected. I just wanted a phone with real e-mail and enough iPod capacity to lighten my personal gadget load. I got that and a whole lot more.
