I thought about the possibilities on the drive home. At first, Nicole's "kern" had me thinking of "leading," but that would only have flexibility if I were growing vertically. Then I settled on -- hypothetically -- a replica of a pica pole along the forearm like a sailor's anchor. How functional could that be?
