Our industry's evolution from "print only" to a news organization that uses multiple platforms to dispense our stories is challenging -- and exciting. New tools, new learning, new opportunities. We're trying our best here at The Denver Post to wrap our arms around it all. Here's our latest effort, posted today online in advance of the print component that will appear in our Sunday paper: http://www.denverpost.com/coloradosfallen

Please share. We all have lessons to learn.

PS: We'll post the print part of this project soon.

Nice job in Denver!

Our Web guy also put together a Memorial Day page at http://media.rep-am.com/memorialday/

It includes a link to the upcoming Ken Burns documentary "The War." Waterbury is one of the four towns featured.

As a followup to Damon's note, here are the pages that serve as a print companion to the online presentation:

The cover and the doubletruck below were done by design director Ingrid Muller.

edit: A larger version of the doubletruck is available in the VizEds gallery. - Lin

Continued followup:

In order to get full color on the doubletruck, which enhanced the storytelling, it had to run in Denver & The West, three sections away from 1A. So we used the section flag as a visual reminder to readers, and tied it together with a live photo taken Friday by RJ Sangosti. I designed this page.

For some reason, I can't get the image to show up here, so I'll send you to where it's posted in the VizEds gallery:

Damon, I cant' decide which is more powerful: The package in print or online. Together, an incredibly emotional, dignified, uplifting experience (one small glitch - I can't view the online piece through Safari).

We did Memorial Day on a smaller scale. In print:

And online:

Bo -- not sure what's going on but I use Safari exclusively and it''s working just fine -- at home and in the office. Anybody else having trouble?

Hmmmm.

BTW, loved the way your print and online components emphasized the voice of the mother. Moving. And terrific photos to boot.

Ms. Griffin -- great idea of linking to Wikipedia. Have already shared this with my oldest daughter who studied American Revolution this year in school and has an interest (spurred, I think, by her Dad) in the Civil War. Also liked the music, especially Cecilia's take on the Star Spangled Banner.

Nice stuff. BTW, I'm stealing he Wiki idea.

And speaking of stealing, the "sign the guest book" feature in Atlanta is yet another great way to let the readers play along and have a voice. Nice thinking, Kenny.
