Entertaining to hear about all this (well-done, Bo) ... but yeah, we could easily just delete this thread now that the news is out there.
The troll isn't worth our time. Life's too short.

WordSquawk, I know you'll read this. And my grandfather always taught me that when you have an enemy, you should "kill him with kindness."
Therefore, WordSquawk, I will say only one thing to you:

I'm very upset he banned me from his message board, I enjoyed the give and take.
Perhaps he can go put on his big boy pants and reinstate me and we can get back to our flourishing friendship.

Are you talking about the message board on Robert's Weneway? I have visited once and I don't think I noticed ANY posts that were not authored by Rknil. He treats the forum as a blog-kinda amusing, especially when he quotes himself in a "response" I can't complain because he does make me smile:-)

I'm banned from Robert's Weenieway site. Well, banned from posting, obviously. It always troubled me that he was a fan of "The Shield," as am I.
But I think his site is well-designed, well-maintained, well-written. Obviously copy edited immaculately.
I heard it was a finalist for the last set of SND.ies online awards, but just barely lost out to NewYorkTimes.com and ElMundo.es.

I really tried to stay out of this one, but I just had to jump into the conversation.
I don't and won't understand why RK has this much anger and hatred against designers, and people for that matter. I think there are people in this world that will never have a happy life, and maybe he is one of them.
I imagine him in his bedroom in front of his computer all day long with the window shades drawn and a single desk lamp turned on, just looking for any opportunity to attack visual "journalists." In the background are newspaper clippings hanging on the wall, with scratched sayings like, "All designers must die." or "All design and no words makes Robert a dull boy." repeated over and over again.
I'll give him some credit, he has a passion for newspapers -- misguided it might be -- but still a passion. Ironically, he probably looks and critiques more newspaper covers than me.
Aside from a few exceptions (i.e. RK's remarks to Bo, etc...), why do we even care what one guy, who obliviously has issues, has to say to us? He probably has never met most of us, individually. And if he ever would, my advice is to extend your hand and offer to shake his. I agree with MattE, "Kill him with kindness."
If he refuses, then so be it.
I'm not offended by the email he recently sent me. He must have found something I posted that was taken out of context.
I wrote:

I believe that was about a centerpiece that I had to rip up. Which, if RK really knew me, is something I love to do. And on another note. I'm a friend with my editor.
He wrote:
| Quote: | Wow, aren't you the arrogant little prick, Benny? (only my closest friends call me, "Benny")
Just remember: You are not a real journalist. You make cutouts. You draw boxes.
Just keep repeating that to yourself when you need grounding.
|
So to you, RK. I wish you the best in your career and life. Good luck and GET HELP!!!!
An that's all I'll say about that.

Oh, he's on a roll lately. He sent me some pretty entertaining stuff based on a comment he thinks I made somewhere. I had no idea what he's talking about – politely told him so and asked him to never contact me at my work email again.
I'd advise others to do the same. I wouldn't be surprised if he's just trying to draw someone into a nasty argument so he can forward all of it to your boss.
He's that tiny little splinter in your finger that is more of an annoyance than anything. Try as you may, you can't get rid of him. So just ignore him, soon he'll disappear and you'll forget he was even there to begin with.

I think there should be some kind of a prize for the first one of us who shows up at his front door and gets a picture with him.
I mean, THAT would be LEGENDARY!

By the way, Robert tells me via e-mail that he has informed the police, so it would be not so wise for any of us to show up at his door requesting a photo with the legend himself.
But hey, I say we're within our rights -- he's made himself a public figure, and public figures and celebrities have to have different expectations of privacy. I'm an autograph collector -- I have a signed photo of the world-record holder for longest paper airplane throw, for cryin' out loud. Why wouldn't I want the 'Hawk's autograph?!? I think going to his door to make such a request is totally within our rights, isn't it?!?
I love imagining what that phone call to the po-po must've been like.
HAWK: Umm, police? Yes, well, for years now I've been posting all kinds of malicious stuff on the Internet about newspaper design dolts and how they're ruining journalism. And I've also posted some things that are well within the boundaries of defamation of character. And finally someone has had enough of it and they're threatening legal action. Will you stake out my house and make sure no one shows up?
POLICE: You're an idiot, sir. [CLICK]
