There's less than four weeks left until the New Media and Design Quick Courses on Sept. 14 & 15 in Fresno.
The Fresno Bee will hosting two SND events: A two-day New Media Quick Course on Innovative Storytelling and a one-day Design Quick Course featuring top page designers, editors and artists from large and small papers. (Or you can get a little of both if you want to sign up for the combo course.)
The New Media Quick Course ($300 for SND members; $400 for non-members) is Sept. 14-15 at Fresno State. Instructors are Don Wittekind, assistant professor of visual communication at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and R. Scott Horner, assistant graphics director at the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. They will offer two levels, beginning and intermediate. Participants will learn the basics of multimedia storytelling, including how to pick a project, set up your team (even if your team is just
you) and develop an effective workflow. In addition, participants will get an introduction to Flash, the standard for multimedia storytelling. And because this is a hands-on seminar, participants won't just see the program in action, they will actually get to try it in the computer lab.
The Design Quick Course ($95 for members; $150 for non-members) is Sept. 15 at The Fresno Bee. Confirmed speakers include Joseph Kieta, editor of the Merced Sun-Star; Joe Tarica, presentation editor of the San Luis Obispo Tribune; Val Mina, design director of The Sacramento Bee; and Jonathon Berlin, senior editor for design and graphics, along with Kevin Wendt, AME for design, sports, and copy desks at the San Jose Mercury News; Shraddha Swaroop, page designer/illustrator at The Virginian-Pilot.
Or, as mentioned, you can spend one day at each. The cost to attend the Sept. 14 new media course AND the Sept. 15 design course is $245 for members and $350 for non-members. More details and registration forms are available at www.snd.org. |
