I am extremely pleased to announce the promotion of Stacy Sweat to the new position of Associate Managing Editor for Planning and Innovation. Over the past decade, Stacy has distinguished herself and the Chicago Tribune in the field of visual journalism. We could probably wallpaper the newsroom with the national and international design and graphics awards her department has won under her leadership. She led the redesign of the current Chicago Tribune while also playing a prominent role in numerous other projects, including the Tribune's 150th anniversary and many other special efforts. Repeatedly, I've relied on Stacy to help elevate the visual presentation of many of our award-winning projects at the Tribune. Now the time has come to leverage her talents to other areas of the newspaper. In her new job, Stacy will report to the managing editor and will have a wide range of responsibilities designed to thrust the newspaper and the newsroom into the 21st Century. Please join me in congratulating Stacy on her new job and her new challenge.

Normally, I don't post ads for folks. If they want an ad posted at VizEds, let 'em log on and post themselves.

But this ad was leaked to me by yet another little bird. I'm posting it here because of its news value. The Trib has not posted this yet at SND. And I'm not quite sure where it is posted. In house, at the very least.

JOB POSTING: ASSOCIATE MANAGING EDITOR/DESIGN AND GRAPHICS

We are looking for an accomplished visual journalist to lead our talented design and graphics staff at an exciting time for the department and the newspaper.

This position requires a seasoned journalist and proven manager with strong administrative and personal communications skills to oversee a complex operation of graphics coordinators, artists and designers who seek excellence through teamwork. The department is dedicated to producing a rich, sophisticated graphics report and lively design solutions for all sections of the newspaper, grounded in the Tribune's news values.

The AME/Design and Graphics requires sound news judgment and a full appreciation of the role of powerful visual storytelling in the mission of the Tribune. Design and graphics are increasingly vital across the newspaper, and successful candidates must have a proven ability to work well with their own staffs and their colleagues in other departments. This person must display the ability to envision and articulate the opportunities inherent in our visual journalism and the ways in which the newspaper can build on its strong tradition in this field.

The head of the Tribune's design and graphics department will be a newsroom leader, someone who can nourish and guide a large staff of top professionals and help create the conditions for their best work to enrich every section of the newspaper.
