Great idea Martin - but as you mention can you even buy tapes any more.
Electronic stores in the UK are now phasing them out.
I've actually just cleared my loft out and found a bag full of old tapes which I need to sort - and my Aiwa tape deck was also up there.
Ahhh the good old days of mix tapes.

Quote:
THE eject button has been pressed on the audio cassette for the very last time.

Currys, the UK’s biggest electronics retailer, yesterday announced it is to stop selling the tapes.

Woolworths and HMV have already removed them from their shelves.

Currys also predicts this Christmas will be the last time it sells hi-fi systems with tape decks included.

Compact cassettes could be frustrating at times — hissing, stretching or getting chewed up in tape decks — but while MP3s and downloads are all the rage now, tapes played an important role in musical culture for more than 40 years.

The recordable tape was introduced to Europe in 1963 by Philips.

I don't understand.

How do I put the cassette into my Mac to import the MP3s into iTunes? Razz

(I think I threw away my last tape deck about 5 years ago.)

Martin,

It's funny that you ask the question because I just got done digging through a box of old tapes from my high-school days.

Does Sir Mix-a-lot's "My Possie's on Broadway" date me any?

I phased out cassette tape years ago.

Now I only listen to duct tape.

NEVER too early to talk about the always-popular mix CD/tape/8-track exchange. NEVER too early.

I don't have a tape player at home to speak of, but my 2003 Honda Pilot has one, actually.

The three tapes in my Pilot right now? Michael Jackson's "Thriller," the "Footloose" soundtrack" and Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the USA."

But I'm with my good friend Mr. Rice on this one -- sure makes getting those songs onto an iPod tough.

But Martin -- I love the nostalgia of a mix tape. Sometimes I miss waiting that 25 seconds for the tape to get to the end of side A, then kick back over to side B!

Won't be there. Will a non-celebrity iTunes playlist work? haha.

I'm all for obsolete formats. You can have my beta max tapes, mini discs and dictaphone cylinders when you pry them from my cold, dead fingers.
