OK, campers ... forget about Ernesto. Let's talk gambling!

SND's first-ever Casino Night is Thursday night after the opening reception, and we're ready to announce the prize list for the evening:

Texas Hold 'Em tournament:
CHAMPION: Airfare, hotel and registration paid to SND Boston in 2007
2nd place: iPod nano 4GB (Black), with Nike+Ipod Sport Kit
3rd-8th place: iPod shuffles

Raffle prizes for the Casino:
(After gaming all night, you exchange your chips for raffle tickets)
• A fabulous new MacBook laptop — Black, 13.3-inch screen, Intel Core duo, 80GB hard drive, Superdrive, iSight ... you name it.
• XBox 360, complete with Madden '07
• A fabulous piece of artwork from San Jose Mercury News artist Stephanie Grace Lim.
• Adobe Creative Suite package.
• Font license from Hoefler & Frere-Jones for Verlag, their newest font.
• 6 tickets to Cirque de Soleil for Friday night
• 6 tickets to Pleasure Island for Friday night
• 4 tickets to Sea World for any day in the next year

And it's all to benefit the SND Foundation! It's a $40 entry fee for the Hold Em tournament, and $20 to get in the door and some starter chips for the rest of the tables. We'll have blackjack, craps and roulette.

• $40 buy-in for the Texas Hold 'Em tournament. Everyone starts at $10,000 in chips. With each entry fee you also get one raffle ticket.
• Casino games: $20 "suggested donation" at the door gets you $1,000 to play with, refreshments and a raffle ticket.
• After you're in the door, you can make another "suggested donation" of $10 to get another $2,000, or $20 to get another $5,000 in play money.
• Raffle only, if you don't want to play: One ticket for $10; 3 tickets for $20

Hope to see you all there on Thursday!

Can't wait for this.

Here's the thing:

If you like to gamble, it's a chance to play without losing any money. (OK, there's a donation, but I wouldn't call that losing.)

If you don't like to gamble, it's a great opportunity to play some games without losing any money. (The money that you put down is tax-deductible).

In any respect, it's a fundraiser for the SND Foundation -- a great cause that pays for students to do all things educational: attend workshops and participate in symposiums. Additionally, it provides training instructional materials for training programs.

And the prizes are first-rate. Win a freakin laptop? Awesome.

So scrape together a few ducats and polish up on your blackjack or check out the odds on Blackjack (hint: get the 5-minute lesson from Goldman -- the man knows his dice).

Craps tutorials available during the opening reception. I'll bring the dice.

Oh, and for those of you wondering -- YES, there'll be a bar in the Casino room, of course.

Just say YO ...

And, wait, was there ever any question there would be a bar? Please, we're journalists. Let's report the facts here: There will always be a bar.

Good grief, do you think it's bad form for the site chair to win a raffle prize???

I know two little boys who'd love that XBOX 360!!!

Can we get a Euchre tournament going? I'm pretty good at that.

Well I'm all set for Hold 'Em.

But Euchre? Now that'd be sweet. Can you promise me a laptop?
