Anybody out there remember Jim Jennings? He was SND president at one time. He's currently editor-in-chief of the Toronto Sun.

Or, at least, he was.

The Sun reports today:

Quote:
Editor-in-chief Jim Jennings has left our building.

After just more than two years at the news helm of the Sun, he announced his resignation yesterday.

"It has been a true pleasure working with the staff of the Sun," the 57-year-old told newsroom employees of Quebecor's flagship English-language daily, which marks its 35th anniversary on Nov. 1.

"It has been an honour to be a part of a turnaround, where the staff was able to focus on doing real news and reconnecting with the community of readers they serve," said Jennings, who began his career in photography, became a design specialist, a Thomson vice-president and international editorial consultant.

Yes. A great guy - he and I presented on tab editing in Kuala Lumpur last year. He is a big fan of VizEds - so Jim if you are reading this - our thoughts are with you big guy.

He is a great talent and has loads of great ideas and energy - he really did a lot of good for that paper in a short time.

Best wishes on the next gig.

It's still too rare to see visual journalists in top management rolls. Jim's a class act , I wish him well.

Indeed, I agree with Bo and Robb -- Jim gave me my first real break at the Lexington Herald-Leader, and helped set me off and running. Great guy, tons of energy and ideas, and a tireless drive to always make things better. He's also a generous educator, giving back when he can. A raised glass and a hearty "good luck."

Jim helped redesign the East Valley Tribune (Arizona) in 1997. It was quite interesting working with him. He emphasized reshaping content instead of just changing the design.

Thanks to each of you for the kind words. I was very lucky to have spent two-plus years with a great group of journalists who made me look good. I worry about what will happen to the paper in the coming months.

If anyone hears of owners who want to invest in quality journalism let me know.

Take a look through SND Annuals past. Jim's work stands very well today.

Hell, if you hear of anyone like that, let us all know and we'll come with you!

Best wishes, Jim!

If we had the cash we could do it ourselves. Seriously, there has to be ONE of them out there someplace.
