FLICKR: This photo by Andres D’Elia flashed across the transom today and, naturally, caught our eye because the model (Alejandra Maglietti) was, uh, modeling a newspaper. Yep - that’s our story and we are sticking to it. You DO see the newspaper now . . . right?
Perhaps the paper is promoting a 2008 calendar of their best sporting images? Or pretty models? We are not sure why Diario Deportivo Ole went this way to promote its sporting news, but Visual Editors is suddenly more interested in heading to Buenos Aires to learn more about how Argentinians use visuals in their media. When is that Buenos Aires SND workshop again?

Most of newspapers I saw in my time living in Peru featured bikini-clad models on the cover and pin-ups inside. Sex sells, and there’s no shame using it in South America. Not that we have a ton of shame up here in the United States either… but it can be a little more gratuitous down there.
Interesting that newspapers (which typically hold themselves to a high level of professionalism and, shall we say, near-stodginess) are going the steamy route. It’s also rather sad and incredibly disappointing. I promise to avoid a rant, but it’s important to say that this kind of advertising is ultimately destructive. Surely the paper is good enough to sell itself.
Guys, you are missing the point
This isn’t an ad for a “real” newspaper nor are papers in Argentina “going the steamy route” as the poster above assumes.
It’s an ad for sports newspaper, and the point it is trying to make is that guys are so crazy about sports that the girl had to “wear” that paper in order to call his boyfriend’s attention…

I guess Google has gone the steamy route, too.
