The Newspaper Club
I’ve been following Ben Terrett’s blog (Noisy Decent Graphics - well worth a regular visit) for some time now. He’s a graphic designer based in London with The Really Interesting Group.
Last year Ben and his colleagues produced “Things Our Friends Have Written On The Internet 2008″ - a publication where they took content from the internet and printed it in a newspaper format.

You can read about that project here.
With that idea in mind, Ben, along with Russell Davies and Tom Taylor, have since started working on something called The Newspaper Club - a tool to help people make their own newspapers using online content. Due to launch in September they’ve already been working on similar models for the BBC and Penguin.
The BBC one is called 8 and the excellent cover is below.

It’s a collection of essays which came out of 8 studies commissioned as part of the AHRC/BBC Knowledge Exchange Programme.
You can see that project here.
It will be interesting to see how this moves forward. As the dark clouds hover over the newspaper industry it’s good to see something which shows newspapers in a good light for a change.
