From a story in the Guardian a survey tells us what we already really know - people will go elsewhere for free online news if you favourite news site starts charging. If one starts charging they all have to start charging!

If Rupert Murdoch thinks readers will pay to read his websites, maybe he should think again. Exclusive research commissioned by from Harris Interactive shows that most readers would run a mile.

    That’s what they say now, but if most or all sites were charging, that number would go up.

    I agree James. The quicker they start charging the more chance people working for newspaper groups have of keeping their jobs.
