New London freesheet announced
Just when London thought it was back with one free paper again after the demise of thelondonpaper and London Lite, the backers of London Weekly have confirmed that it will launch on 1 February next year with £10.5m funding.
The freesheet, which plans to distribute around 250,000 copies a day on Fridays and Saturdays, will be launched by Global Publishing Group in partnership with five private investors who as yet remain unidentified.
A media pack prepared for potential advertisers says publisher Global Publishing Group has raised the money to launch the title, an accompanying website and a web radio and TV station.
It is also likely to be similar in editorial content to the now defunct thelondonpaper and London Lite, with the media pack promising “entertainment, light politics, music, sports” and around 30% of the content generated by readers.
