The Times and the Sunday Times relaunched their websites yesterday (May 25) in readiness for the introduction to the paywall they’ll put up in 4 weeks time.
It’s certainly a different approach to other newspaper websites in that it looks very much like the print product. Although every time I look at the home page I still think the masthead should be slightly bigger to stand up to the ad above it.
I do like the full width drop down menus like this:

The Sunday Times has taken a different approach with visuals being more prominent than its sister title.

The Guardian’s Peter Robins has written a good review of the new sites here.
More on the relaunch from The Guardian here.
There is a video promo for the websites here.
Eye magazine also gets in on the action here.
And a survey has revealed that 90% of people won’t pay for new Times websites at the £1-per-day or £2-per-week fee.
I wouldn’t pay a £1-per-day, but £2-per-week seems like a pretty fair price to me if you’re a Times reader. The print product costs £1 per day and the Sunday Times costs £2.
I think everybody involved in newspapers will be interested to see how this goes. In fact we should hope it does work so we can all then start charging for content.
