How would you like to be seated on a jetliner next to Dan Rather for three hours?
A Texas J-school undergrad recently was seated next to Gunga Dan on a JetBlue (JetBlue?) flight. She writes about it here.
I’m impressed that Rather took the time to talk with some candor to this girl, even telling her, presumably as a warning, of some of the obstacles women in broadcast news have overcome.
The former “CBS Evening News” anchor apparently spends a decent part of the year outside New York, among the rest of us — and that’s comforting. If there was a way to get the rest of the New York and Beltway media out here to see how the real America works, maybe some of the notions news consumers have about “bias” would dissipate.
Just a thought.
